Exploring

A special feature of the Cottage is a number of walks you can do from the doorstep. Leave your car behind and take a gentle stroll to the pub across the fields or a half day or a longer day's stroll in the lovely countryside surrounding the cottage.

We have, to date, organised 8 local walks ranging from a 2 mile there and back walk to a 5 and a half mile circular walk. You can take with you the small laminated map with details of the walks on the reverse side . One of the longer walks, for example, takes you to a magnificent view of Coniston Lake from the fells above.

There are also books, leaflets and maps in the cottage detailing other, slightly more distant walks in the vicinity. One features nearby Rusland Church where Arthur Ransome of "Swallows and Amazons" fame is buried: another "Hilltop", the farm Beatirx Potter bought in the village of Sawrey.
Most of these walks are within 8 miles but you will probably need a car to reach them.
